2025 CECIC’S EARTH ACADEMY (CALL FOR APPLICATIONS)

When

April 7, 2025 - May 9, 2025
All Day

Since oil exploration began in Uganda’s Albertine region, local communities have faced significant challenges rather than reaping the promised benefits. Despite the potential for economic growth, oil extraction has contributed to environmental degradation, poverty, and underdevelopment in the region. Each year, oil spills and related pollution threaten the livelihoods of thousands, contaminating water sources, destroying fertile lands, and endangering biodiversity.

Women in these communities bear the greatest burden of this environmental crisis. As primary caregivers and providers of food and water for their families, they face immense challenges due to pollution. Their ability to sustain households through farming and fishing has been severely disrupted. Additionally, exposure to pollutants has led to increased health risks, including respiratory illnesses and reproductive complications, further jeopardizing their well-being.

CECIC is calling on passionate and driven young Ugandans aged 18 to 30 who are committed to addressing the devastating impacts of oil and gas activities in Uganda’s Albertine region. We are seeking changemakers determined to combat environmental injustices and human rights abuses caused by reckless resource extraction. Through this initiative, successful applicants will be empowered with the skills and resources needed to create meaningful change in their communities.

Do you share this vision? Are you based in Uganda’s Albertine region or other affected areas? We want to hear from you!

Note: Applicants are encouraged to submit original responses reflecting their genuine commitment to environmental conservation and community empowerment. AI-generated responses will not be considered during the selection process.
