An environmental NGO in Uganda, rooted in the Rwenzori
The Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment & Management (CECIC) is an environmental NGO in Uganda dedicated to shaping environmental policies that work for the people who need them most: Uganda’s youth, women and rural communities.
Africa holds extraordinary environmental wealth, yet the communities living closest to its forests, rivers, land and wildlife are too often the last to benefit from it. CECIC exists to change that. Since 2010 we have worked from Kasese on the belief that Africa’s environmental protection potential can and must be turned into real prosperity for local people.

Our mission and vision
Every environmental NGO in Uganda needs a clear purpose. Ours is simple: rural communities in the Rwenzori region should be the first to benefit from the land, water and forests around them.
To improve the livelihoods of rural communities for sustainable development in the Rwenzori region through programmes for climate justice, nature conservation and human rights advocacy.
A society that equitably uses natural resources for socio-economic development.

Headquartered in Kasese, in Uganda’s Rwenzori region, CECIC is an environmental NGO in Uganda that works across Uganda and the wider Great Lakes region, where shared forests, rivers and ecosystems cross national borders and where collective action is the only truly effective response.
