About Us
Influencing Environmental Policy. Empowering Uganda’s Most Vulnerable.
The Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment and Management (CECIC) is a Uganda-based non-profit organisation dedicated to shaping environmental policies that work for the people who need them most ; Uganda’s youth, women, and rural communities.
Africa holds extraordinary environmental wealth, yet the communities living closest to its forests, rivers, land, and wildlife are too often the last to benefit from it. CECIC exists to change that. We were founded on the belief that Africa’s environmental protection potential can and must be turned into real prosperity for local people.
How We Work
Through strategic lobbying, evidence-based research, and grassroots community education, CECIC brings together citizens and leaders around a shared goal: natural resources managed fairly, sustainably, and in full respect of human rights.
We advocate directly with policymakers at local, national, and regional levels. We conduct field research that places community voices at the centre of the evidence, and we run education programmes that equip youth, women, and rural communities with the knowledge to claim their rights and shape their environment.
Who We Stand For
Our work is grounded in equity. Uganda’s youth are the stewards of tomorrow’s environment and they deserve a seat at every decision-making table. Uganda’s women bear a disproportionate burden when natural resources are mismanaged, and their leadership is essential to getting resource management right. Uganda’s rural communities live with the daily consequences of environmental policy, and their wellbeing is our ultimate measure of success.
Where
Headquartered in Kasese, in Uganda’s Rwenzori region, CECIC works across Uganda and the wider Great Lakes Region, where shared forests, rivers, and ecosystems cross national borders and where collective action is the only truly effective response.
Mission
To improve the livelihoods of rural communities for sustainable development in the Rwenzori region through programs for climate justice, nature conservation and human rights advocacy.
Vision
A society that equitably uses natural resources for socio-economic development.
