Climate Change

🌍 Climate Change & Community Resilience

Facing Climate Realities, Building Local Solutions

Climate change is no longer a distant threat it is here, and it is affecting the people and landscapes of Uganda in real time. From the melting glaciers of the Rwenzori Mountains to prolonged droughts and devastating floods in lowland areas, communities in the Rwenzori Region and beyond are on the frontlines of a climate emergency they did not cause.

At the Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment & Management (CECIC), we believe that the best solutions to climate change come from those most affected by it. That’s why we work hand-in-hand with communities to design, implement, and scale climate responses that are locally relevant, just, and sustainable.

🌱 Our Approach: People-Powered Climate Action

We combine climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development what we call a “triple-win” approach—to ensure that communities can protect their environment, improve their livelihoods, and contribute to national and global climate goals.

1️⃣ Community-Led Climate Resilience

We support smallholder farmers, women’s groups, youth, and community leaders to implement; Climate-smart agriculture, Water conservation,Disaster risk reduction measures and these efforts build resilience from the ground up.

2️⃣ Climate Governance & Capacity Building

We work with district and local governments, civil society, and community-based organizations to;Integrate climate adaptation into development plans,Offer training on climate policy,Strengthen early warning systems.

3️⃣ Clean & Just Energy Transition

CECIC promotes the adoption of ;Community owned Solar lighting systems ,Energy-efficient cookstoves. These reduce emissions, improve household health, and save time and money.

4️⃣ Climate Finance Access

We help communities and local governments;Navigate climate finance channels,Develop strong project proposals andEnsure transparency in fund use

5️⃣ Nature-Based Solutions
