Eco CITIZEN Monthly Letter — May 2026 (Issue 5)
This issue of CECIC's newsletter showcases community-led climate action across western and northern Uganda. Centered on the Rwenzori region, it reports on roughly three tonnes of waste managed weekly through the Zero Waste Communities initiative, expanding kitchen gardens that strengthen household food security, and growing momentum behind decentralized renewable energy under the REPower Afrika campaign.
Youth and women take center stage, from the Afrika Vuka Week of Action in Kasese to wider engagement now spreading to Nebbi, Hoima, Bushenyi, Mbarara, and beyond. The issue also highlights CECIC's work in research and digital tools, environmental justice advocacy, and efforts to carry community voices onto national and global stages, including a critique of the "Africa Forward Summit" and coverage in the UG Standard.
A word from Executive Director Edwin Mumbere ties it together: lasting change begins with empowered communities, building a future where people and nature thrive.
