Fact Sheet : Climate Change and People with Disabilities in Uganda

Climate change is not an abstract phenomenon, it is a tangible threat with real consequences for people across the globe. In Uganda, one particularly vulnerable population is people with disabilities (PWDs). Their pre-existing vulnerabilities, often compounded by societal barriers and exclusion, are amplified by the devastating impacts of climate change. This fact sheet delves into the specific challenges faced by PWDs in Uganda due to climate change and outlines crucial recommendations for building a more inclusive and resilient society that leaves no one behind.

As climate change disrupts weather patterns and intensifies extreme weather events, Ugandan PWDs face a heightened risk of food insecurity. Droughts and floods wreak havoc on agricultural production, jeopardizing food availability for PWDs who often depend on subsistence farming for their sustenance. Access to clean water, another essential resource, is also under threat due to changing rainfall patterns and water scarcity, further exacerbating the vulnerabilities of PWDs.
