Resilient food systems, community led action.
Secretariat hosted at CECIC, uniting civil society, farmers, local government and partners to address climate driven food insecurity in the Rwenzori and Albertine regions.
Agroecology
first approach
Renewable energy
for food systems
Why it matters
The Agricultural sector especially in western Uganda has experienced floods, dry spells, land pressures and post harvest losses that threaten livelihoods. We build coordinated, community led resilience that restores dignity and food justice.
Vision and mission
A Western Uganda where all communities have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food and where local food systems are resilient, just, and community controlled.
Strengthen food security through community led action, agroecological practices, renewable energy solutions, policy engagement, and inclusive partnerships that respond to the realities of the region.
Why the Food Rights Coalition Matters
Western Uganda continues to experience climate disruption including floods, prolonged dry spells, soil erosion, pests, and declining fertility. Post harvest losses remain high because farmers lack access to storage, processing facilities and clean energy.
Land pressures, extractive activities, and inequality in access to information and resources continue to deepen the vulnerability of already marginalized communities. These challenges require more than isolated interventions. They require coordinated responses that place communities at the center and bring together different actors around a shared agenda for food justice and resilience.
Civil society, farmers, researchers, local government, and development partners united for community led food systems.
What We Focus On
- Agroecology and climate resilient farming: food forests, organic methods, seed preservation, water conservation.
- Renewable energy for food systems: solar irrigation, clean processing, post harvest loss reduction.
- Community knowledge and local leadership: indigenous knowledge, farmer led innovation.
- Policy engagement and advocacy: land rights, climate adaptation, equitable investment.
- Community inclusion: leadership, access to skills, decision making platforms for all community members.
How We Work and Key Action Areas

Communities are not passive beneficiaries. We see them as leaders, knowledge holders, and partners in shaping lasting solutions.
Key Areas of Action
- Community dialogues and farmer learning forums
- Research, documentation and knowledge exchange
- Promotion of agroecological practices and renewable energy
- Advocacy for supportive food and climate policies
- Strengthening regional conversations around food storage, nutrition, climate adaptation, sustainable livelihoods, and the role of renewable energy in agriculture
