CECIC Joins Landmark Climate Case Before Africa's Highest Human Rights Court
The Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment & Management (CECIC) has joined a groundbreaking submission before the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, calling on the continent's highest human rights tribunal to formally recognise that the climate crisis constitutes a violation of the fundamental rights of African citizens. Grounded in the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, the submission seeks enforceable legal obligations on African governments to reduce emissions, protect ecosystems, and hold polluting corporations accountable rights that have long been promised but never legally enforced. CECIC's Margret Asiimwe will represent the organisation at the Court proceedings. Download the full press statement below.
